Caritas Tromsø and Svalbard was founded on January 27, 2019 by the congregation of Vår Frue Kirke (Cathedral of Our Lady) in Tromsø for welfare work among people in need within the parish boundaries of the congregation (Balsfjord, Bardu, Dyrøy, Kåfjord, Karlsøy, Kvæenangen, Lyngen, Målselv, Nordreisa, Senja, Skjervøy, Storfjord, Sørreisa, Tromsø municipality and Svalbard). It is an independent organization linked to Caritas Norway and Caritas Internationalis.

Caritas Tromsø and Svalbard has close cooperation with Caritas Norway, where we rely on their legal team and carry out projects in accordance with them. Our work in Tromsø consists of individual guidance, free Norwegian courses and information work.
